At Reading Roots Literacy Coaching, our mission is to help young learners become confident, capable readers through personalized, research-based instruction designed around each child’s unique needs. We believe every child deserves a strong literacy foundation that supports not only academic success, but also confidence, emotional growth, and a lifelong love of learning.
Using a compassionate, whole-child approach, we meet students where they are and guide them through every step of their reading journey.
At Reading Roots, we do more than teach reading skills. We help children build confidence, develop independence, and grow into successful lifelong learners.

My name is Monica Asencio
I am the educator behind Reading Roots Literacy Coaching. I’m dedicated to providing engaging, research-based, and personalized literacy support to help learners build a strong foundation and reach their full potential. Let’s work together to support your child’s reading journey
Meet the Educator
I’m Monica Asencio, an educator with over a decade of teaching experience and a passion for helping young readers grow into confident, successful learners. I hold a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and have endorsements in Reading, ESOL, Gifted Education, and Exceptional Student Education (ESE). My work focuses on providing personalized, research-based literacy instruction that meets each child’s individual needs.

Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of learners, including English language learners, struggling readers, students with dyslexia, and students who benefit from differentiated support and enrichment. I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach, a structured, multisensory method that helps students build strong foundational reading skills through explicit, systematic instruction.

At the center of my teaching philosophy is the belief that children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and understood. I strive to build meaningful relationships with my students, so they feel confident taking risks, working through challenges, and celebrating their growth. I bring creativity, warmth, and engagement into every session to make learning both effective and enjoyable.
Through Reading Roots Literacy Coaching, my goal is to help students strengthen not only their reading and writing skills, but also their confidence and independence as learners. Whether a child is beginning their reading journey, needs targeted intervention, or is ready for enrichment, I am committed to helping them reach their full potential.
